About Us

Founders of Bacchicdilissus in Romanian forest

Our Story

Bacchicdilissus was founded in 2018 by Elena Dragomir and Mihai Popescu, two passionate environmentalists who grew up in the pristine wilderness of Romania's Carpathian Mountains. Having witnessed firsthand the gradual degradation of their beloved natural landscapes due to unsustainable development and climate change, they decided to take action rather than simply lament the loss.

The name "Bacchicdilissus" draws inspiration from ancient Roman myths about nature deities who protected the wild forests of Dacia (modern-day Romania). This name was chosen to symbolize our deep connection to the land's historical relationship with nature and our commitment to preserving this heritage for future generations.

What began as a small grassroots effort with just five volunteers has now grown into a nationally recognized environmental organization with over 50 full-time staff members and a network of more than 2,000 volunteers across Romania. Our headquarters in Bucharest coordinates activities throughout the country, from the Danube Delta in the east to the ancient forests of Transylvania in the center.

As we look toward 2026, we're expanding our initiatives to address the most pressing environmental challenges facing Romania and the broader European ecosystem. Our work combines scientific research, community engagement, sustainable development practices, and advocacy to create holistic solutions to complex ecological issues.
